Biography

Stephanie Baird

Veteran. Nurse. Ally.

I was born in Huntsville, Texas, the only “miracle” child born to my parents. We moved several times, different areas of Texas to Florida to Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia. Although short, my time in Saudi was wonderful, I learned so much about different cultures and religions and how very different people can coexist. After only a couple years, we came back to the States and settled in Alvin to be closer to my mother’s family.

After joining the United States Coast Guard, I discharged in April 2005 and two days later was enrolled in school. I had several areas of interest but decided to go the non-traditional route by starting school for aircraft mechanics. I graduated with high marks and received my Airframe & Powerplant certification in Nov. 2006. I later left aviation all together, going to nursing school at Alvin Community College. I have been a Licensed Vocational Nurse since Feb. 25, 2010, and it has been incredibly rewarding. I have worked in correctional, mental health and substance abuse facilities, learning how to be a better advocate for my patients along the way.

I became interested in running for office not long after visiting the Texas Capital and sitting in the House Gallery during the 88th regular Legislative session. I realized I could put my knowledge and experience to good use on a bigger scale. There is still a knowledge gap and a stigma associated with mental health and Substance Use Disorder and my hope is to bridge that gap. I am also a fierce and unapologetic Ally for the LGBTQIA+ community and any other marginalized communities. I strongly believe that we need diversity, it’s where our strength as a community lies.
